Overall Thoughts:
  • The trip to Tahoe was definitely an adventure. Made the first 2 day trip with a fast overnight and also drove through the snow with the trailer for the first time.
  • I did not realize how seasonal South Lake Tahoe was. I mean, I knew it was seasonal but I did not realize Summer season did not start until Memorial Day weekend. So many parks, tours, and historical sites are closed until Memorial day.
  • Since everything was closed, there was not a lot to do. This trip was mostly down time and I was able to get some high priority maintenance items done.
  • The campground was fine, did not love it but everything being closed may have contributed to that.
    • There was a mail room that you could use which was very nice to not have to pay the $5 package fee.
    • Every time I used the bathrooms there, they were muggy and not super clean.
    • Picnic tables
    • Fires allowed in provided fire pit
  • Dogs were leashed and people picked up after them
  • The T-Mobile connection was strong enough to use as the main internet.
  • It was pretty chilly for the most part, the lows got down to 26 but it was sunny during the days. Only snowed a little bit while we were there, but more snow was scheduled for the weekend we left.

Overall Thoughts:
  • I liked this campground and we finally had some sunny weather. It only rained two days the entire time we were there. The downside was the mosquitos were starting to come out and they were out for blood.
    • RV sites were a mixed bag, the first one we were assigned was a perfect length for us but too tight a turn for us to back into. We were assigned to another one that was not as long but much easier to get into. It felt very precarious since it was right next to a ravine.
    • The site we ended up at was not the most level but we figured it out.
    • Picnic tables
    • Fires allowed in provided fire pit
  • Staff was very nice and accommodating.
  • Dogs were leashed and people picked up after them.
  • The people were all quiet and respectful, kept to themselves and no kids.
  • The T-Mobile connection was strong enough to use as the main internet, which was nice because it was heavily forested and satellite would not have been possible.
  • Florence was a fairly small town but still had what we needed while we were there.
  • We finally had really nice weather and it only rained two days.

Whalers Rest – South Beach, OR – 3/29-4/12
  • 1hr 20min drive time – 56 miles
  • 2 week stay
  • 30/50 Amp, W/E/S, Back-in
  • 15 min from Newport, OR

What we did:
Places we ate:
Overall Thoughts:
  • I had very mixed feelings about this campground. I very much preferred the campground in Pacific City.
    • RV Sites were concrete pads but were not level.
      • Picnic tables
      • Fires allowed in provided fire pit
    • Staff was fine. They were not necessarily rude but did enforce the package fee while not enforcing leash and picking up after your pet rules.
    • The people around us got on my nerves quickly. Kids were running around with whistles, the adults were walking through our campsite, and the dogs had no supervision or leash.
    • There was so much mud.
  • The internet connection here was a bit of a puzzle. The trees were very tall and we were not able to get a stable Starlink connection.
    • We both need uninterrupted high speed ethernet connections for work. Video calls really highlight if you have bad internet. AT&T was the only cell service provider so we got a 100 GB prepay data plan and used that for our work computers.
    • Since we still had 2 weeks of Starlink Unlimited we used that for wireless and streaming devices but it was a horrible connection.
  • It was nice to be closer to a city again and have the ability to go to Walmart to stock up on stuff at a lower price. We also were able to have a really nice day out on the full weekend we were there.
  • It rained so much. There was literally one sunny day and thankfully it was the full Saturday we were there so we were able to get out and enjoy ourselves.

Pacific City – Cloverdale, OR – 3/15-3/29
  • 2hr drive time – 102 miles
  • 2 week stay
  • 30/50 Amp, W/E/S, Back-in
  • 5 min from Pacific City, OR
Quick Summary
  • Nice campground with very clean amenities
    • RV sites were fairly level and gravel
      • Picnic tables
      • Fires allowed in provided fire pit
    • Staff was super friendly and easy going
    • We had a few packages delivered without any issue or charge
    • Quiet and other guests were respectful
    • People leashed their dogs and picked up their poop
  • No cell service, satellite is only option for internet
  • Very small town, limited shopping for groceries and general goods
    • Lincoln City is 30 min south and has larger grocery stores and pharmacies
    • Salem is 90 min west and has big box stores like Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Petsmart.
  • Rained most days
  • We were both sick and run down, not much adventuring happened
