Orlando RV Campground

Clermont, FL

It was so nice to be done with the long cross-country drive and be back in Florida, what I consider to be my home state. I am happy that I will be escaping the cold of winter this year while traveling around and seeing parts of Florida I am not as familiar with.

For the most part the weather was really nice. We did have one night with a bad storm, no damage but we did get some water inside due to just how much wind and rain there was.

Since Dan and I work remotely we are still working PST hours. That has been a bit of an adjustment and when we used to get off work around 4 or 5pm we are now finishing our work days closer to 7pm. It has made it a little more difficult to get out and do things after work but hopefully after the new year we will be able to transition to a schedule that aligns better with EST hours.

I had my first Pub sub in years and it was delicious. My go to order is roast beef and white American cheese on white bread with mayo, lettuce, tomato, Boar’s Head pickles, black olives, and salt.

We also got a small storage unit in the Apopka area. It was inexpensive and we will be back to the surrounding area a few times a year. It is amazing to me how quickly stuff piles up and starts to get in the way so it was really nice to offload some stuff.

My pub sub, Halloween nails, storage unit, cute little gator painted outside the The Goblin Market

I was able to see my parents a few times and one afternoon we had a nice lunch out at The Goblin Market.

Halloween Horror Nights

Halloween is hands down, my favorite time of year. Since my birthday is 11/1, I have had the luxury of celebrating my birthday on Halloween countless times. What is midnight on Halloween if not the first of November? I have more Halloween decorations than I do Christmas decorations and horror in general is my favorite genre.

I always try to go to Halloween Horror Nights when I can. It is one of my favorite annual Halloween traditions. The entire park is transformed and even just getting to walk around the park through the scare zones is a lot of fun. The food is always a little underwhelming but it is still fun to have lots of spooky themed treats.

Haunted House

We did four houses while we were there. I am always amazed by the people who can do most or all of the houses in one night. There is a ton of walking and waiting involved so I like to also make sure I enjoy other things going on.

Jason Universe – “Friday the 13th” films
  • Halloween Horror Nights guests will be taken on a vengeance tour throughout the summer camp to see where it all began, from the creaking floorboards of Jason’s ramshackle cabin to the decaying main lodge and the eerie forest that offers no refuge for his victims.

This one was my favorite, I love a classic slasher movie and this house was a lot of fun. It even got me a few times with jump scares which can be hard to do when there are so many people moving through the house at once. There was a hallway at the end that really kicked it up a notch to make sure you were left with a chill running down your spine.

Fallout – Video game franchise and Prime show
  • Fans will encounter iconic scenes and characters that will put them into the frightening post-apocalyptic wasteland of the popular series.

This one was probably my least favorite as far as the haunted houses went. It was definitely cool and I still had a good time but it did not provide that haunted house hit I was looking for. It was more of and immersive Fallout house walkthrough but I did not find anything about it scary.

Dolls: Let’s Play Dead
  • You’re about to become doll-sized and witness the unnatural creations of a twisted little girl. You’ll be hunted by burnt fashion dolls, toys she’s melded together and undead horrors in her dollhouse.

I really enjoyed this house, it was super adorable and a fun twist on a classic haunted house.

Gálkn: Monsters of the North
  • In a remote northern village, a wicked being rises from the dead, bringing a horde of monsters and demons from the fjords to wreak havoc on the townspeople. Try to escape the belly of the beast.

This was probably my favorite visually. I could have spent a long time looking at all the details, there was some really cool setwork and monsters.

Nightmare Fuel: Circus of Decay

This once-vibrant circus has festered into an unending nightmare. It’s a sinister spectacle of pyro, aerialists and illusions.

The big show this year was a high energy and haunted take on the circus. It was a lot of fun to watch and a nice break from walking around. All in all it was a great show with good music and good performances.

Gatorland

I had known about Gatorland for years but had never actually been. I do love me some gators, so when I heard a commercial on the radio for Halloween at Gatorland it sounded like a personal invitation. I have to say Gatorland really lives up to it’s name. While there are a few other animals throughout their main focus are alligators and crocodiles.

I was able to meet up with a good friend and her family at Gatorland. She has a young son and he seemed to really be enjoying it. They definitely cater to kids here.

The Halloween decor did not quite live up to Universal Halloween Horror Nights but I did not expect it to. With so many kids around you can only do so much before they run away screaming.

My Birthday

I celebrated my 38th Birthday while here. Dan cooked me a nice dinner and my mom got me a cake. What I really wanted for my birthday though, was take the day off, so that is what I did. I am constantly trying to balance rest and going out on adventures since we are only in locations for a short time.

Bathroom Update

Shortly after moving into the 5th wheel I did a lot of painting to make the space feel more like ‘me.’ One of the first things I did was the bathroom, it was a small space and paint made a big difference.

Bathroom before

In addition to the paint and wallpaper I replaced the sink faucet, shower head, and toilet. The toilet is now a full size residential toilet and was very much worth the upgrade.

Bathroom after

I had been super happy with my changes and the only other big change I kept thinking about making was removing the sliding glass doors. When I first moved in I thought oh how fancy, sliding glass shower doors in my trailer bathroom. After over a year of living with them I have a much different opinion. The fact that they were trifold made keeping the glass dry difficult and the track they were in was also a giant pain in the butt to keep clean.

I also knew removing them would offload about 80lbs of weight so I decided to go ahead and remove them. No regrets and I am so happy I won’t have to clean that track anymore.

Crochet Blanket

I was able to finish the Halloween blanket I had been working on for months. I did not meet my deadline of completing it before Halloween but it was done before Thanksgiving, so it could have been worse. I did not measure the finished size but it would probably fit best on a twin size bed.

Halloween Tattoo

I don’t always get a new tattoo to celebrate Halloween, but I did this year. I had not gotten one in a while and decided to get one in celebration of Halloween, my birthday, and making it to Florida. So, what better to celebrate with than a little zombie Hello Kitty!

I had started looking for artists a few months ago and found one I really liked, BAM Tattoos. I decided to book with her and I could not be happier with the work she did.

The tattoo shop, line work progress, color finished, next day

About 2 weeks healed.

Campground Website – Full Map

  • Site SCA 9 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
    • Full Hookup, 15/30/50 amp, Back-in.
    • We were close to the front of the park and in a section that was not super dense with sites. We were also right next to the bathrooms which is always convenient. I really liked this spot.
    • Picnic tables, no firepits.
  • Campground ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
    • This was the busiest campground we had stayed at and all of the amenities were up and running.
    • They had a small restaurant, daily propane fills, rec center, pool, gym, and tons of activities
    • The biggest downside to this park seems to be the mass influx of people checking in at noon. So if you are trying to drive back in and get caught in that it can take a while to get back through the gate.
    • There was a large lake but we never had a free day where we could go down and check it out.
  • Other People/Pets ⭐⭐⭐⭐
    • Everyone seemed to keep to themselves and was very quiet but I did take a star off for the kids/teenagers that roamed in packs towards the evening. Don’t get me wrong, they were not causing trouble but they were loud and making bad jokes.
  • Internet Connection ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
    • We were able to get a great connection with T-Mobile and did not run into any issues with slow speeds.
  • Vibes ⭐⭐⭐⭐
    • Overall this was a really nice campground. It was great to be in a place where all the amenities were available. I really really liked it but it was frustrating that it was so far from everything in Orlando. With where it was located, everywhere was an hour away. I did not matter if you were going to Apopka, Mount Dora, or Orlando, everything was an hour away.
